CONGRATULATIONS!

Helen Fox is a member of Taunton Machine Knitting Club and she’s written to tell us about her daughter’s recent achievements.

Dear Anne
I thought you might like to know that I’m doing my best to help keep the flag flying for machine knitting. My daughter, just turned 18, has finished taking an A level in Textiles and I encouraged her to use machine knitting for some of the projects. She produced a blanket based on the artist Matisse on a Brother 260, a dress based on the designer Ruth Lee and a child’s dressing gown based on fruit textures and she chose Strawberries. She used a Brother 965i for the dress and dressing gown. She gained a B grade overall, but all her projects based on machine knitting received an A. Needless to say, I’m very proud of her.

Best wishes
Helen Fox

KNIT & NATTER

Pat Banyard Smith has written to tell us about a Knit & Natter Day arranged by Long Buckby Machine Knitters and she writes:

Dear Anne
Thank you so much for promoting the Knit & Natter Day in Long Buckby on Monday 8th October. We all had a lovely day. Iris Bishop gave an inspirational talk and the various activities in the morning went very well. There was a lovely atmosphere with everyone exchanging ideas and trying new techniques. We had a wonderful collection of knitwear for premature babies, which Aly from BBC Northampton came to collect. A staggering 83 people attended the event.

After that Wendy Piper and I went down to Alexandra Palace to man the Guild of Machine Knitters stand with Liz Holness and Jill Brownjohn. We had an exhausting but exhilarating time. We seemed to talk non-stop for four days and managed to recruit a lot of new members to the Guild including quite a few students. We were delighted to receive positive comments from the public about the display. The felted bags produced at Hazel Green’s workshop in Long Buckby were particularly admired. Non-knitters said that the bags were making them think of taking up machine knitting. We hope to run another workshop with Hazel next year, so perhaps you would be kind enough to promote that too?

Next we have the Guild Regional Day in the town of March in the month of November and what a great advertisement there was for this event in Machine Knitting Monthly. Did you know the Guild of Machine Knitters will celebrate its 10th Anniversary next year and we are all trying to think of exciting ways to celebrate this event?

Kind regards
Pat Banyard Smith

SCOTTISH MACHINE KNITTERS

Margaret Robbie has been a wonderful contact, bringing us regular news about the Scottish Machine Knitters.

Margaret has been very quiet for a while - and here’s why. In May she was appointed Editor for the members’ bi-monthly Newsletter and she was also given the opportunity to update the Scottish machine knitters website, which was in need of some TLC. She’s still working on both projects, but tells us that she’s getting there slowly. To start the ball rolling with their news, at around this time of year we bring you an update of the committee and serving officers and, as we go to press, here are the current details. The areas have been changed slightly to give better cover around the country and do contact your local representative if you would like further information about the organisation. New members or those returning are always very welcome.
